Veterinary Diagnostic Imaging: Ultrasound

Ultrasound is an advanced, state-of-the-art diagnostic imaging technique that is painless and non-invasive. Nebraska Animal Medical Center uses this diagnostic tool to obtain information about the internal organs of your pet using sound waves. A computer image is generated that helps us to evaluate the internal structure of organs and can show abnormal lesions.

In the abdominal cavity, ultrasound is particularly valuable for imaging the following:

  • Stomach
  • Liver
  • Spleen
  • Gall bladder
  • Kidneys
  • Lymph nodes
  • Adrenal glands
  • Urinary bladder
  • Pregnancy evaluations

Ultrasound often allows us to detect cancer in early stages. Ultrasound of the heart, or echocardiogram, is invaluable in assessing the functional ability of the heart.

Several of our doctors have received advanced training in ultrasound imaging and are highly skilled in using ultrasound to assist in diagnosing and treating your pet’s medical conditions.
