Veterinary Wellness Services Keep Your Pet Healthy

Wellness care is key to keeping your pet happy and healthy.

At Nebraska Animal Medical Center, keeping your pet healthy, happy, and in top shape is our highest priority. A nose to tail, hands-on wellness examination lets us assess:

  • Heart
  • Lungs
  • Lymph nodes
  • Skin
  • Joints
  • Ears
  • Eyes
  • Teeth

In every examination room, there is a screen so that you can see all the information and images that your pet’s veterinarian does. This allows us to make you an active partner in your pet’s health care. Our team approach ensures that your pet gets the best veterinary care possible.

Pet Vaccinations

Starting when your new pet is about 8 weeks old, we will administer vaccinations as recommended by AAHA. Prevention of disease by this method is easy and quick, and we tailor the vaccinations your pet receives by taking into account lifestyle and contact with other animals. For example, if you choose to board your dog, a preventive vaccine against bordetella, commonly known as kennel cough, is necessary.

Preventing Pet Parasites

New pets will be dewormed and an annual fecal exam will be done to check for intestinal parasites, including:

  • Roundworms
  • Tapeworms
  • Hookworms
  • Whipworms

We will also check for protozoa such as Toxoplasma, Giardia, and coccidia.

In addition, we test dogs annually for heartworms, Lyme disease, and Ehrlichia. After a negative heartworm test, we will prescribe heartworm prevention medication that contains a dewormer to help control some of the more common intestinal parasites.

Heartworm Prevention

Because heartworm is such a big problem in our area, we want to make sure that your pet is protected against this preventable disease. Nebraska Animal Medical Center will prescribe a monthly heartworm preventive for your pet. If your pet is picky about taking medication, we can prescribe it in a treat that he or she will like.

Each time you and your pet come in for a visit, we will review your pet’s individualized care plan with you. Vaccine boosters will be given as needed. We look forward to your questions about disease and parasite prevention, so feel free to bring them to your pet’s wellness visit or call our office.
