Shawna Burke, LVT, B.S.VT – Director of Education
Shawna’s love for animals has been palpable since she was a toddler. Her first memory is of a piglet snuggled up in her lap at the tender age of 3. Every tail wag and purr only solidified her calling…to be an animal nurse.
In 2005, Shawna began her journey in veterinary medicine. She went on to graduate with honors as she obtained her Associates of Applied Science degree in Veterinary Technology. Shawna furthered her education at the University of Nebraska- Lincoln to achieve a Bachelor’s of Science in Veterinary Technology, thus extending from veterinary technician to veterinary technologist
Shawna’s joy of teaching in veterinary hospitals began in 2009 while she simultaneously functioned as a Licensed Veterinary Technician. She has a special interest in critical care, emergency, cardiology, neurology and anesthesia. These serve her significantly as she pursues her veterinary technician specialty from the Academy of Veterinary Emergency and Critical Care Technicians. In 2016, Shawna returned to NAMC to become the Director of Education when she moved back to Lincoln, NE.
When Shawna is not tending to a patient, teaching or reading a textbook, she enjoys spending time with her husband, Brad, their three furbabies (Betty Boop Fruit Loop, Pele Ontologist, and Zegan Kuss), and her family. Her hobbies range from vibrant brush strokes within her abstract paintings, black and white realistic drawings and yoga. Gardening around their craftsman home has become her newest hobby that brings her joy.
