Euthanizing a pet is not an easy decision. We are here to discuss options and assist in every way we can during this difficult time.
At Nebraska Animal Medical and Emergency Center, we understand and are here to assist during this painful time. We offer compassionate in-home euthanasia in Lincoln, Omaha, and the surrounding areas and will ensure that your companion’s final moments are filled with peace and love.
On the scheduled date of the appointment, one of our doctors and a Veterinary Technician or Vet Assistant will come to your home. The doctor will talk with you and explain each step of the process. You will then be asked to sign a euthanasia consent form and they will ask you what you would like for aftercare for your pet’s body. Our clinic uses Whispering Pines Pet Cremation Services, which has been in business since 2001. There is also a cemetery in Lincoln and, if you want to bury your pet at home, the Lincoln, NE, ordinance says “Deceased animals may be buried if you have an acceptable place available. An owner may bury the household pet on their residential property if such animal weighs less than 150 pounds. The animal must be buried with 24 hours and covered by 4 feet of soil at the natural ground level.” When you are ready, we will give your pet a sedative to relax them and help with any pain. After shaving a little of the hair from a front leg, a catheter will be placed in the vein in your pet’s leg. When you are ready and have said goodbye, the doctor will then administer the euthanasia solution. Your pet will fall asleep and the doctor will listen to the heart to ensure that your pet is deceased. As difficult as a decision like this is, it is also a final gift to that beloved pet. They will no longer be in pain and their memory will remain forever in your heart.
If you have elected cremation for your pet’s body, the doctor and assistant are able to return the pet to the clinic where the cremation service will pick it up and, if you choose private cremation, they will return the cremains in 7-14 days. If you elect a simple/group cremation, the cremains will be spread out in the trees of the farm Whispering Pines owns. If you choose to have your pet buried at the Pet Cemetery, you will want to contact them ahead of the appointment so they can come at a designated time.
Losing a beloved companion is never easy, but in-home euthanasia in Lincoln makes the process a bit less stressful for both you and your pet. If you have any questions or just want to talk about arrangements, please call (402) 423-9100. We will be happy to talk to you and will do all that we can to respect your wishes and make this transition for your pet as peaceful as possible.
